After being given a prognosis of two years regarding cancer, Nicholas Hutchinson FSC set about writing prayers for his own use: prayers that would reflect his journey, prayers to which he would often return. Having lived beyond the initial prognosis, he has had occasion to send copies of his personal text to others who are seriously ill. Nick revised the text further and, on being encouraged to do so, now offers it to others in book form: mainly to people on a similar journey of serious illness (and to their loved ones and carers).

The first half of Praying in Serious Illness can readily be used by those who are not ill – being prayers for everyday use – and the text is such that people can dip into the book or take the prayers consecutively. Most of the prayers reflect a wide use of scripture.

May this book be of good service to you, whatever your pilgrim way, and may you be helped to write your own prayers so that, on returning to them, you will be enabled to read words again with which you will be well able to identify.
