Marple Book Fair 2016 – Thank You!

Marple Book Fair 2016 was a roaring success and as we sit here, a mixture of exhausted and elated, we’d just like to take this time to thank everyone who attended, held a stall or helped out throughout Saturday’s event.

Introducing a new event into the Marple community calendar was something that we didn’t go into lightly. We know that everyone in town has so many things going on, so to see how many people came through the door on Saturday was amazing to us. Just twenty-four hours earlier, we sat looking at the empty room and worried that it was going to look exactly the same the morning after. It did not and for that we are eternally grateful.

This was an opportunity for Marple’s most avid readers, authors, and group leaders to come together in support of a great cause and that you did. We still haven’t got the official total raised, but it’s safe to say that we’re into three figures which is already excellent. What’s more, we can confirm that thanks to your support Marple Book Fair will return in 2017.

The thanks, of course, must also go out to all of our fantastic stallholders and speakers. Without your initial interest, it would have been really hard to get this off the ground in the first place. Chris Simms, Brenda Burling, Paul Beatty and Chris Taylor all gave brilliant, insightful and funny readings that kept people entertained throughout the day. Talisman Books, The Red Hat Guide, Agatha in The North and Marple Cancer Charities all put together brilliant stalls full of excellent books and complimented our own Rejoice and Tiny Tree stalls really well.

We’d also like to thank people that helped the event behind the scenes, but who couldn’t be there on the day. Karen and everybody at Cloudberry Cafe who provided cakes, Gwenda at The Marple Book Shop for providing lots of excellent new books and Jill and her family from Stars & Stripes who donated lots of used books for the cause too. You too are all excellent.

Finally, we’d like to thank everyone at Saint Martin’s Church for allowing us to use the hall and being so accommodating, the space was perfect, I think you’ll all agree, and also the Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport for opening the event and unveiling the new Miss Marple Book covers on Marple Train Station..

As we mentioned above, Marple Book Fair will return in 2017 and we want it to be bigger and better than this year. If you would like to get involved or even just register your interest, please email a.barlow@matthewjamespublishing.com and we’ll make sure you’re notified when the next one enters the planning stages.

Thank you,

Everyone from the Marple Book Fair and Matthew James Publishing
